Let me begin by saying I have never, as far as I know, had a Hidden Comment or had my ratings ability removed. I even survived the great Clinton/Edwards/Obama purge in 2007 when a huge portion of the site had their privileges yanked. It's not that I am so very virtuous but rather I'm pretty busy; I come and go here when I can and rarely have the time for extended pie fights. Kids and a job will keep you off the Internet when you would rather indulge yourself with a few hours of blogging. I'm also in the last year of my fifties, a decade when I've learned to let go of certain nonsense.
Robinswing's diary today was most definitely not nonsense. It struck a chord with me because I have been distressed at the way people of color have left or been banned from this very white site. I don't usually comment on Black Kos but I read it when I can, and I just love Sistahspeak and Robinswing's direct, no bullshit writing.
I heave a sigh of relief that these voices are around to give some diversity to the sameness that often permeates the site. We are liberals, after all, we don't want everyone to look and sound like us, do we?
So when Robinswing asked for a week-long boycott of the site, I said yes. I'm not a joiner, I don't sign onto things carelessly, but I'm doing it because I feel a point needs to be made.
See you next week, hopefully.
